After 7 years in the old courthouse,
it was time for a change.

I am no longer in the Old Courthouse — but don’t worry, I didn’t go far! The new studio on the second floor of the Stockwell-Wheeler Double House at 313 SE 1st Street. This building is one of the oldest, if not THE oldest, buildings in Evansville…how cool is that?! (Will report back on any ghosties). A little smattering of history that I compiled is below!

.

The Stockwell-Wheeler Double House was built in 1836-1839 in the Early Republican architecture style. It features a symmetrical facade and round-arched corner entrances framed with molding accented by a wooden keystone. This style of building is unusual in Evansville because of the Federal influence and its urban character. A building similar in style was located in the 200 block of S.E. First St. until it was demolished in the late 1960’s/early 1970’s. This Double House joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, along with ~ 28 blocks of residential and commercial buildings in the downtown area, referred to as the Riverside Historic District

Stay tuned for an Open House once the dust settles and the paint dries! Can’t wait for you to visit!
